Itinerary

This 5-day safari from Isebania to Namanga takes you through Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes, from the wildlife-rich savannahs of Serengeti to the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater. Beginning at the Isebania border, the journey explores the remote Ikoma region before heading into central and eastern Serengeti, known for their high predator densities and vast plains. The safari then ventures into Ngorongoro, where diverse ecosystems support an incredible concentration of wildlife, including the endangered black rhino. The adventure ends with a scenic drive to Namanga, stopping for lunch in Arusha at Fifi’s Restaurant.

Your journey begins as you cross into Tanzania at the Isebania border, where you are greeted by your guide who will be with you throughout this incredible safari adventure. From here, you drive toward the Ikoma region, situated in the northwestern part of the Serengeti ecosystem. This area is known for its vast, open woodlands, undulating plains, and seasonal rivers that attract an impressive diversity of wildlife.

As you travel through the region, the landscape alternates between sparse trees, scrublands, and grassy plains, with the occasional sighting of large herds of zebras, giraffes, and antelope species. You may also spot elephants wandering through the plains, particularly near water sources.

The climate in Ikoma is generally warm and dry with cooler nights, ideal for nocturnal wildlife such as hyenas, leopards, and civets, which are active as the sun sets. The region is teeming with a variety of birdlife, including the graceful Secretary bird, African fish eagles, and vultures soaring above.

The vegetation is largely dry woodland and savannah, providing a perfect backdrop for a classic safari experience. Depending on your arrival time, you will stop for lunch before continuing to Yellow Babet Ikoma for dinner and your overnight stay, where the sounds of the African night will accompany your rest.

On the second day of your safari, you head from Ikoma to the Seronera region, often referred to as the heart of the Serengeti. This area is famous for its high predator densities, with lions, leopards, and cheetahs frequently spotted. The varied landscape of grasslands, acacia-dotted plains, and the permanent Seronera River creates an ideal environment for large herbivore populations, including wildebeest, impalas, buffaloes, and gazelles.

These herbivores attract large numbers of big cats, offering spectacular opportunities for wildlife viewing. As you drive through the Serengeti, you’ll notice the landscape shifting between grassy plains and wooded areas, creating a blend of savannah and woodland ecosystems. The moderate climate, with warm days and cooler nights, ensures optimal conditions for safari activities.

The region also boasts a diverse range of birdlife, including the beautiful lilac-breasted roller, hornbills, and vultures. You will stop for a picnic lunch in this breathtaking area, providing a chance to relax and absorb the beauty of the Serengeti. In the afternoon, you continue exploring the park before heading to Serenity Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. The lodge offers a great vantage point to witness the vastness of the Serengeti landscape.

The third day takes you deeper into the eastern Serengeti, an area that is less frequented by tourists and offers a more secluded safari experience. This part of the park is characterized by vast open plains and rugged kopjes (rocky outcrops), which serve as prime shelters for predators like cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas.

The expansive grasslands, interspersed with occasional shrubs and small trees, are home to large herds of gazelles, topis, and elands. The climate here is semi-arid, with warm days and cool evenings, making it an excellent spot for wildlife observation.

This region offers a chance to experience a quieter, more intimate safari, as the plains stretch endlessly, providing ample space for the animals to roam freely. Birds like the secretary bird and kestrels can often be seen hunting on the ground, while raptors such as the African fish eagle circle overhead.

You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the wide-open vistas, surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of the Serengeti. After your lunch, you’ll return to Serenity Lodge for a second night in the heart of the Serengeti, where the sounds of wildlife will serenade you as you fall asleep.

On day four, the safari departs from the Serengeti and heads toward one of Africa’s most famous wildlife destinations: the Ngorongoro Crater. As you drive toward the crater, the landscape transforms dramatically from dry grasslands to lush forests and volcanic hills, offering breathtaking views along the way. Upon arrival at the Ngorongoro Crater, you descend into the caldera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest intact volcanic craters.

The floor of the crater supports an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including large herds of elephants, buffaloes, and wildebeests, as well as predators like lions, spotted hyenas, and cheetahs. One of the highlights of the crater is the chance to spot the rare black rhino, which resides in the dense woodlands and grassy plains within the crater.

The crater’s diverse ecosystems—open grasslands, marshes, acacia woodlands, and seasonal lakes—create a rich habitat for a wide range of species. The climate here is cooler due to the higher altitude, with misty mornings and crisp evenings. The birdlife in Ngorongoro is equally remarkable, with sightings of ostriches, flamingos at the soda lakes, and various species of waders.

A picnic lunch is served on the crater floor, providing spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes. Afterward, you’ll head to Martina Retreat for a relaxing dinner and your overnight stay, where you can unwind and reflect on the day's adventures.

On the final day of your safari, you leave from Kratu to Namanga. you’ll have the opportunity to take in the awe-inspiring landscapes as you travel toward your destination. Before reaching the border, you’ll stop in Arusha for a farewell lunch at Fifi’s Restaurant, where you can reflect on the incredible wildlife encounters and the diverse ecosystems you’ve experienced during your 5-day safari. Afterward, you’ll continue your journey toward Namanga, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure through some of Tanzania’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife-rich regions.
